You
Never Know the Impact You Have
August 14, 2006
You're
making impressions and creating perceptions with
people all the time and don't even know it. That
can be a great thing and a not-so-great thing.
Case
in point: I have had a home on the market for
a lot longer than I would like. We're finally
having success in selling it due to a change in
realtors, but for a long time I was surprised
at how little traffic we were getting. It is a
gorgeous home in a very popular and much-desired
neighborhood. After I changed realtors, however,
the traffic picked up tremendously. One of the
neighbors even commented to me that they noticed
a significant flow of traffic once there was a
new realtor sign in the yard.
The
original realtor was not necessarily trying to
make an impression on or market herself to my
neighbors, but she was definitely sending a message.
Based on the silent impression this first realtor
made, I know one neighbor that would be certain
NOT to use her if they decided to move. That same
neighbor is likely to mention this realtor's name
in a negative way when friends ask if she can
recommend somebody who knows the neighborhood.

Everything
we do creates a domino effect.
|
That's
why it's critical that we always do our best.
That we never think we're an island or operating
in a bubble. I teach and preach, "everyting
is marketing." We have to pay attention to
everything, and we have to realize that there
are always people watching in the shadows„people
who can help or hurt our business. So let's make
sure we're always giving them something good to
talk about.
